1st Robo-call at the Reference Desk

Submitted by Leo Klein on Sat, 10/10/09 (10:22am)

Wow, I don't recall this ever happening: The phone rings at the reference desk. I pick it up. And the recorded message begins, "This is a message from Credit Card Services".

"Credit Card Services"? At the University? I have to admit that it took me a moment to think about this. Then I hanged up.

Flu-Shot Day at UIC

Submitted by Leo Klein on Tue, 9/29/09 (1:05pm)

The sticker reads, "I Got My Flu Vaccine! Did You?"

Normally I don't bother but this year, it seems like there's a heightened awareness. Judging by the larger crowd even at 10 in the morning, I'd say a lot of people were feeling the same way.

Submitted by Leo Klein on Mon, 9/28/09 (7:11pm)

Over the weekend, we went to German Day in Lincoln Square in Chicago. I've been going to this thing since I was old enough to slip into a pair of lederhosen (obligatory photo of Leo as a toddler with the first Mayor Daley).
