Night of a 100 Look-ups.
Nothing like starting the year off with a whole class of students from the local high school, all looking for books and magazine articles for an assignment due on Monday.
Last shift of the year. 2015 -- we hardly knew ya.
Student: Do you have a refrigerator to store our drinks?
Me: Sorry, no.
Student: Are these databases like the ones in high school?
Me: How long have you been here?
Student: A week.
Me: Well, yes the databases are similar -- only we have a whole bunch more and we focus a bit more on the details -- so you can find the things you need.
I then showed her how to plow through a pile of search results and identify promising articles which she could send to herself and read later.
Best Question: Hi, I'm from OH. We're coming from Mich - trying to figure out how to get back home. Got a map?
Start of the day and already the weirdest question (by phone): 'What's the phone number of The Library of Congress?'
