At the Reference Desk

Brief musings while working at the Reference Desk

Kind of hungry (as usual) and there's a quarter cake in the back room. Tempting -- but the last thing I probably need after 2 days of pure gluttony in Springfield.

Wow, we're still getting NYRB in microfilm! WTF?

I'll tell you what this library needs! It needs a food-tray within reasonable distance from the Reference Desk! Don't know how long I'll be able to hold out... Fading fast. Need. More. Calories.

Must finish that research guide...

Kind of slow today which means I get to work on my Research Guide for Encyclopedias.

Back at the Reference Desk -- first time since I got back.

Summer hours, just here till 8pm.

Last day of spring quarter (at least for me). We're closed over the weekend. Summer hours begin on Monday. It's sad to see the students go (especially the ones working here in the library).

How do you know it's the end of the year? When students come in asking for a book and not wanting anything electronic or online -- just a traditional 'read'.

You know, they get these fancy copiers that do everything but perform lasik surgery & then when push-comes-to-shove towards the end of the quarter, the gizmos break down, get stuck, jam. The students freak out because they need a copy of something & their final class is, like, now. As Bill Maher would say, New rule: when dealing with multiple users, single purpose beats multipurpose.
